Onika's Interview

We weren’t able to interview Onika because she lives in Tanzania. Her family doesn’t have internet so we couldn’t email them. Instead we want to share information about her school.

2003: In the small town where Onika lives the parents of children with disabilities got together and said they wanted their children to be able to go to school. (Onika has intellectual disabilities.) The church council decided to help them build a school. They started asking for help from people all around the country.

People gave money, building supplies and helped build the school without asking to be paid. People living close by grew potatoes and green peppers and sold them to help raise money.

2005: The Rainbow school opened. It was named the Rainbow School because rainbows mean safety and hope to the families. The school had 14 rooms, four teachers, four helpers and 21 students.

2009: New classes were added. Now students could learn to do a job. These are classes Onika, Teo, Elibeth and Agnes show us in Onika’s book.

2014: The school got safe drinking water.

2015: There are 35 students at Rainbow School.
