Inclusive Education is replacing Special Education. Inclusion is becoming more meaningful.

Inclusion Education - Finding My Way Books

It’s been over a month since we launched our new Finding My Way Books website highlighting our passion for promoting the inclusion of children with disabilities. Vera and I were sitting down having lunch almost exactly eight years ago when the idea to work together and write children’s books was born.

Inclusion is finally starting to burst into our world after slowly creeping into it for decades. Today Inclusive Education is replacing Special Education. Inclusion is becoming more meaningful. Recently, Ali Stroker became the first person using a wheelchair to win a Tony Award.

During this first month of our new website, we’ve connected with three wonderful women advocating for inclusion. Paula Kluth is an inclusion specialist. Here’s her reaction to our website:

“The site is gorgeous and the books look fantastic!

I'm posting on FB immediately and I'll be sure to let folks know about these great resources-- what a wonderful contribution to the field.

Thank you for letting me know about these materials!!

Jennifer Sommerness , Executive Director of Inclusive Schools for Kids Included Together (KIT) responded to our outreach and asked for book samples to share on her on-site visits:

“Thank you for reaching out! This sounds wonderful. We are always looking for new and creative ways to support teachers meaningfully.”

Karen Dobyns, an Occupational who completed her doctoral project on researching the use of children’s books to promote inclusion of children with disabilities and differing needs, shared her reaction to our website: “ WOW, soooo cool!”

We’re hoping to continue to connect with many others who are passionate about inclusion. Together we can help educators make inclusion meaningful.

It’s very exciting to see how inclusion is changing our world. Poppin’ Joe, (Pictured above) from our book I Want to Be Like Poppin’ Joe, in NYC Times Square because of his exceptional work. Now that’s a positive change!
